Accelerating the Delivery of our Second Indoor Sports Stadium in Sunbury

As part of my election campaign for Jacksons Hill Ward, I am making the commitment to accelerate the delivery of a second indoor sports stadium in Sunbury.

With the Hume region's population projected to grow rapidly, it is estimated that by 2041, an additional 22 multi-purpose competition indoor sports courts will be needed across the region. Most critically, 15 of these courts will be required by 2031.

The time for action is now.

Our community is at risk of being left behind if we do not address this pressing need. The new stadium will be strategically located in Sunbury’s growth corridor, providing vital facilities for basketball, netball, badminton, pickleball, and table tennis. Additionally, it will provide much-needed sporting and community facilities for our newest residents.

This project is aligned with the Hume City Council Indoor Sports Plan 2021-2031 and the State Government’s Precinct Structure Plans. I am committed to working closely with the State Government to ensure this infrastructure is delivered as a priority.

Moreover, I will continue to advocate for necessary upgrades to the existing Boardman Stadium. We've made progress, but further improvements are needed to ensure that our current facilities meet the demands of our growing community. Specific improvements are required in the change rooms, staff and club accommodation rooms, and community and social spaces.

Boardman Stadium is a great facility and has served our community well, but it needs upgrades to continue keeping up with the rapid growth of one of our community’s fastest-growing sports.

We cannot afford to wait—Sunbury needs these facilities today.
